According to a recent survey, a third of first dates end in disaster. Embarrassing blunders prove to be the passion killers so take note readers!

Would be romantic, first date hopes are dashed by different mistakes during a date. According to latest research, the most common mistakes why first dates went wrong were related to alcohol and talking about a former partner. The survey also showed that 8 million singles in the UK are currently looking for love and will go on a massive 18 million first dates this year. This means that the average UK single has a little over 2 first dates during a year and at least 6 million of those will end in disaster, and even fewer will lead to something special.

40% singles admitted to turning up late for a first date - or not showing at all.

28% talked about their ex and past sexual experiences. This is not best thing to discuss on a first date!

14% confessed to over-indulging in alcohol

Dr Victoria Lukats, psychiatrist and Parship's dating expert said: For some, a first date can be more like negotiating through a minefield. People can feel under an enormous amount of pressure to make a good impression on a date.
